Back to analog journaling

FujiFilm Instax Mini Link+ charging on my notebook

I’m making a comeback to analog journaling after years of digital recording of my ideas and feelings in a multitude of forms.

It all stems from an inspiring post by Molly on Glass that describes her return to regular journaling.

Where I struggled before to come up with a topic for journaling, I now have a springboard for writing. For some unbeknownst reason, I find it a lot easier to write with a photo on the page, even if my writing isn’t at all related.

I’ve tried to post a photo a day, or just regularly ever since I’ve had a blog, without ever managing to keep it up in the long run. My Daily album on Flickr is the closest I got since closing my Instagram account in 2021.

The idea of printing a small photo, and writing something around it, be it just a caption, seduced the notebook lover in me. I already have everything needed to start this project, but I couldn’t resist acquiring an Fujifilm Instax printer after a review in The Verge popped up in my feed. No comment.

The printer was delivered this morning and is currently charging while I write these words. This might fizzle out as my previous endeavours, or not. Time will tell, but the idea of going back to analog (sort of) feels good.

There is something magical about seeing your work in print. I have gone years at a time without printing and never really minded, but making a daily print, and physically watch it come off the printer and being able to hold it in my hand, and then have to reflect about the day or the photo….it has become a daily meditation, a form of gratitude.

Thanks Molly for the inspiration 💜
