To celebrate Opera’s 30th anniversary, the company created an amazing time travel website to discover or relive for some, the early days of the web.

Web Rewind is chock-a-block full of screenshots, animations, sound clips, videos all driven by keyboard activity (it works on a touch device, but a physical keyboard is what you want here). All your favourite milestones are there.

The Web Rewind isn’t a static museum; it’s a playground. It lets you rediscover the gems from the web’s history by interacting with digital “artifacts” directly in your browser – whether you’re on your phone or your desktop.

You can also submit your own memories, and win a trip to the CERN, where the web was born on a NeXT computer.

Navigate by year

Web Rewind is our tribute to the community that shaped the web. We want to celebrate the memes, the breakthroughs, and even the quirks that made the web what it is today.
– Jan Standal, Senior Vice President at Opera
